Questions

The ones people ask most. If yours isn’t here, write to us.

Getting started

What is itwin.co?

A page at itwin.co/yourname where an AI answers for you, in your own words. You answer ten questions the way you’d say them out loud. People open your link and ask it things. It answers only from what you wrote, and when it doesn’t know, it says so and points them to you.

It is not a chatbot that knows the internet. It knows you, to the extent you told it.

How do I make one?

Sign in with Google, Apple or your email. With email, a six-digit code arrives in your inbox; there is no password, ever. Say who you are, answer ten questions, pick your link, publish. Ten minutes, start to finish.

You can come back any time to answer more, change the look, or read what people asked.

Is it free, and how many can I have?

Free. Making a twin, sharing it and chatting with one cost nothing. There are limits on how many messages a chat can hold and how many chats a twin can have in a day, so it stays free for everyone.

One twin per person, and one per business. You can change your username once every 30 days; your old link keeps working for a while and is never given to anyone else.

Your twin and your words

What does my twin know?

Only what you wrote: the ten answers, any of the forty optional ones you add, and your About sections. For a business, the items you list too. Nothing from the web, nothing from your social accounts, nothing you didn’t type.

If someone asks about something you never wrote about, it says it doesn’t know and tells them to ask you.

Can it make things up?

It can be wrong. It paraphrases, and a paraphrase can drift. What it cannot do is invent facts: every answer comes from your words, and under each one a visitor can open “Where does this come from?” and read the exact lines it used. If it cited nothing, the page says so.

Every twin page says, before the first message, that it is an AI and that it can be wrong. That line is not optional.

What are moods and lights?

Mood is how your twin talks today: normal, upbeat, playful, formal, brief, or low. Change it whenever you like. The facts never change with it, only the tone.

Light is the colour behind your page. Pick one of the presets, or set your own colour or gradient.

What is the About page, and what is the game?

About is a page of sections about you: a title, a few lines, a photo if you like, and your links elsewhere. Your twin reads the first part of each section, so it can tell a longer story than ten answers allow. Links never reach the AI.

The game is a small platform game you can switch on for your page, for people who want a minute of play. It has nothing to do with your answers.

Visitors and chats

Who can talk to my twin?

Anyone with the link, in any language. They don’t need an account. A chat holds a handful of messages, then they can start a new one. Before the first message they are told it is an AI, that you can read the chat, and whether they are anonymous.

Can I read the chats?

Yes. Every conversation your twin has shows up on your page for 30 days, then it is deleted. Visitors are told this before they write a word. You can delete any chat, or all of them, sooner.

You also get a list of the questions your twin couldn’t answer, so you know what to write about next.

Are visitors anonymous?

A visitor who is not signed in appears to you as “Visitor”. No name, no account, no address.

A visitor who is signed in chats under their name by default, so you see who asked. The page says so before their first message, and they can switch that chat to anonymous before they write. If you’d rather hear only from people who sign in, turn anonymous chats off in your settings, and the page says so.

Does my twin remember people?

Only when a visitor asks it to, or when you are connected. Then it keeps one short note about that person: what they said about themselves, what they asked, what was left open. Never claims about you. The visitor reads the note word for word on their own page and can delete it in one tap. So can you.

Connections

How do connections work?

Find someone by their username and send a request. If they accept, you are connected: your twin recognises them when they visit, remembers what you talked about last time, and passes on what they asked you. The same happens on their side. Either of you can end it, and the notes go with it.

What happens when I import my contacts?

Your browser works out a fingerprint of each number and sends only the fingerprints to us, so we can tell you which of your contacts already has a twin. Names stay on your phone, and we keep no address book. A fingerprint could be checked against numbers we already hold, so imports are limited per day, and you can turn off being found by your number in Settings.

For the ones who aren’t here yet, you can send an invite from your phone’s share sheet, on WhatsApp or wherever you talk to them.

Privacy and safety

What do you keep, and for how long?

Your account, your answers and your page: until you delete them. Chats: 30 days from the last message. Nothing you or your visitors write is used to train anything, by us or by anyone we work with. There are no ads and no trackers.

The privacy page lists everything, and the security page says where it lives and how it is protected.

Can I export or delete everything?

Both, from your settings, any time. Export gives you one file with your answers, sections, links and settings. Delete removes your twin, your page, your photos, your connections and your account. It is not a soft delete and there is no undo. Gone means gone.

Someone made a twin of me, or a page is breaking the rules. What do I do?

Use the Report link at the bottom of any twin, or open the report page, or write to hello@itwin.co. You don’t need an account. A twin that pretends to be someone else, involves a minor, or harasses someone comes down. We look at every report.

Business twins

Can a business have a twin?

Yes. A cafe, a studio, a shop, a clinic: a page that answers the usual questions in its own words. It lists what the place offers and what it costs, and repeats prices, hours and contact details exactly as written. It never adds up a bill, invents a discount, takes an order or makes a booking.

A business twin lives on its own account, made by someone who runs the place or may speak for it.

Account

Why do I need to be 18, and why is there no password?

You need to be 18 to make a twin, for now. That is a legal question we are still working through, not a judgement. Anyone can still talk to a twin.

There is no password because a code in your inbox is both easier and safer: nothing to remember, nothing to leak. You sign in once and stay signed in for 30 days on that browser.
