Cookies
Updated 31 October 2026
itwin.co keeps very little in your browser, and nothing for advertising. This page lists all of it.
The cookies we set
The sign-in cookie. When you sign in, a cookie keeps you signed in on that browser. It holds a session identifier, not your name or your number. It lasts 30 days, is refreshed while you use the site, and is deleted when you log out. It is set only when you sign in.
The signed-in flag. A small cookie that tells the page to show “Your twin” instead of “Log in”. It holds the value 1 and nothing about you, lasts 30 days, and goes when you log out.
The chat session cookie. When you chat with a twin, a short signed cookie keeps the conversation together, so replies arrive in the right place and limits apply per session rather than per message. It identifies the session, not you. It lasts an hour and is sent only to the chat endpoint.
If you sign in with another account from the options on the sign-in screen, that provider sets its own cookies on its own site during sign-in. We set none for it.
What the twin page keeps in your browser
A twin page uses your browser's session storage, which is not a cookie and is never sent to us:
- The chat you are having, so it survives a tab switch or a visit to the About page. It is keyed to that one twin, and closing the tab clears it.
- Whether you have already seen the page's opening animation, so it does not play twice.
- The preview an owner sees of their own page keeps the same two things, in the same way.
- The home page keeps whether you have arrived once, so its opening plays once.
- The sign-in screen keeps when a code was sent, so the wait before you can ask for a new one is counted right.
The game keeps one number in local storage: how many times you have lost. That one survives a closed tab. Nothing else does.
What we do not do
- No advertising cookies.
- No third-party trackers, no analytics scripts that follow you across sites, no pixels.
- We count page views and measure page speed without cookies and without identifying anyone.
- No fingerprinting.
- The check that runs before an anonymous chat, which tells a robot from a person, is run by a service under contract with us. It runs on that page only, for that purpose only, and it is not an advertising tracker.
How to clear
Log out to remove the sign-in cookie. Close the tab to clear a chat. Your browser's settings clear everything at once, under cookies and site data for itwin.co. Clearing the sign-in cookie costs you nothing but a new code: your twin lives on your account, not in the browser.
Why there is no banner
The two cookies are needed for sign-in and chat, and there are none for advertising or tracking, so there is nothing to ask you about. If that changes, this page changes first.
